I am Louise Pasterfield, an artist based in Cornwall, UK.
This site is dedicated to my Ukraine portrait series, Portraits of Resilience, a body of work I began in May 2022 in response to Russia's invasion, and which I have continued ever since. I have now completed 295 watercolour portraits documenting the faces and stories of the Ukrainian people: soldiers and civilians, the elderly and the very young, moments of grief, defiance, and quiet endurance.
The series was exhibited at Truro Cathedral in August 2024, where it was featured by the BBC and ITV.
This month I am bringing a selection of the portraits to Saltash, Cornwall, for a new exhibition: Colour and Courage at St Stephen's Church, 28 to 31 May, open daily 2 to 6pm. Entry is free. The opening evening is Thursday 28 May at 7pm, featuring Ukrainian Singers Plymouth.

Portraits of Resilience in support of Ukraine
Currently, I am deeply invested in my project called Portraits of Resilience, a painting series on Ukraine, dedicated to the strength and struggles of people at war. Through my watercolor paintings, I hope to not only capture their stories but also contribute to the support and solidarity for Ukraine during these challenging times.
